Telford Business Club Quiz Night Raises Money for Charity

Telford Business Club Charity Quiz Night goes down a storm with both members and guests attending from local businesses.

Tristan King from Voodoo Design was the Quiz Master for the evening and delivered varied and interesting questions to the eager audience.

Jane Preston, local debt centre manager, from the charity “Christians Against Poverty” (the club's chosen charity for the year) gave an overview of how this local charity has helped and continues to help impoverished individuals and families from Telford get back on their feet said, “we exist because nobody should be held hostage by debt and poverty. But the truth is that they are rife in the UK. In a society where people live behind closed doors, thousands are desperately poor. Unable to feed their children, incapable of paying to heat their homes in winter, the grip of poverty is relentless. It breaks families apart and drives many to think that suicide is the only solution”.

Christians Against Poverty are passionate about releasing people in our nation from a life sentence of debt and poverty and their causes. Through their services, and are tackling poverty head on. The quiz helped raise extra money for the local CAP debt centre, with prizes kindly donated by members Allun Williams of Cyclone Sign & Print, Sharon Wyatt of Athena Leasing Ltd, and the next meeting will feature a prize to be auctioned donated by Nigel West of Fiveways Insurance.

Sharon Wyatt, club chair, said: “It’s good to support our local charities - it gives you a great sense of well-being, knowing that as a club, we are helping others overcome adversity”.

CAP is a nationwide organisation which operates local debt centres and we at Telford Business Club are supporting our local centre.

“We are a very relaxed, friendly networking club that meets conveniently at the end of the working day, every second Tuesday. Telford Business Club, the oldest networking group in the county, is a great way for Telford companies to get to know each other and expand their own work.”

The cost to join the TBC is £150 a year, which includes a hot meal at every meeting. Visitors can attend at a cost of £15 per meeting and are able to attend twice before making the decision to join as a fully-fledged member. All places must be booked in advance for catering purposes. Telford Business Club does NOT charge an additional monthly fee and does not request that people to send a substitute.
