Budding Photographer Eleanor Seaward from TCAT Raises Hundreds for Charity

| by Editor | Posted in Telford News, Telford Schools

Budding photographer Eleanor Seaward helped to raise hundreds of pounds for charity after capturing the action at one of the UK’s biggest fundraising bike rides.

Eleanor, from Randlay, enrolled at Telford College of Arts and Technology to complete maths, English, science and IT qualifications, after being previously home-schooled.

The 16-year-old is now on a BTEC in Creative Media Production level three course, which includes the chance to take on a photography project.

“My dad was taking part in the annual Aberdovey Bike Ride, where more than 600 riders were covering over 100 miles, so I contacted the organisers and offered my services as a course photographer,” she explained.

“I have a Canon 5D mark 2, which I have invested in as I want to be a professional photographer when I leave college.”

She certainly made an impression, shooting pictures on the finish line where another Ellie – multiple gold medal-winning swimmer Ellie Simmonds – was handing out the medals.

Eleanor said: “Ellie was lovely and really friendly. I got a chance to chat with her about her career, in between snapping the riders as they came over the line.”

The event’s main professional photographer, Nigel Power, was impressed with Eleanor’s work.

He said: “When Eleanor offered her services, I jumped at the chance for the help. She is outgoing, positive and above all knows her way around the camera.

“I wish her all the luck with the rest of her college work and hope she wishes to return next year. If she is free, I’ll gladly have her back.

“The cyclists, having ridden over 100 miles, just want to get off their bike and meet family, but if they don’t get an image on the finish line, they later regret it.

“One of the first things I pointed out to Eleanor was that she needed to take control of the riders as they come across the line and organise them ready for a picture.

“Within minutes, she was in control, giving out her orders in a professional and authoritative manner and was able to capture the ‘moment’. She was not even fazed by the presence of Ellie Simmonds - she controlled her too!”

Images from the ride are now on sale through the event website and have already raised hundreds of pounds for the charity.

Joe Adams, creative media tutor at TCAT, said: “We are incredibly proud of Eleanor’s achievements.

“Our course promotes independence and practical development, and by combining the skills developed on the course with her drive and enthusiasm for the subject, she produced some fantastic work and benefitted hugely from a great experience.”

Eleanor added: “I'm really grateful to Joe Adams for everything he has done to help and support my learning.”
